OUR STORY

The Fossil Art Specialists

At Fossilbox, our journey began with a simple idea: to transform natural history into beautifully crafted fossil art.

What started as a fascination with fossils and their stories has grown into a passion for creating unique fossil displays that bring ancient worlds into modern interiors. Each piece we create is rooted in a respect for the past and a desire to present it in a way that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Fossil art, thoughtfully displayed.

ABOUT US

The concept of Fossilbox began in 1997 with Vince Wills and is now run by Vince and his partner Hazel from their workshop on the Sussex coast.

Fossilbox grew from Vince’s passion for fossil hunting, spending years exploring the UK’s coastline and countryside in search of remarkable finds. From the North Yorkshire coast to hunting rare trilobites in Shropshire, that passion became a shared pursuit when Hazel joined him, with many trips accompanied by their four-legged companions.

Over more than 35 years, Vince has built an extensive collection of fossils from across Britain, spanning much of the geological timescale.

As the fossil collection grew, so did the desire to present these pieces in a way that reflected their natural beauty. At the time, most fossil display options were limited to basic stands, offering little consideration for design or presentation.

Fossilbox was created to change that.

By combining authentic fossils with carefully crafted, design-led presentation, Fossilbox transforms natural history into distinctive fossil art. Each piece is thoughtfully mounted and framed using natural materials, creating bespoke fossil displays that enhance the form, texture and detail of every fossil.

Today, Fossilbox offers a range of fossil art and custom displays designed for all spaces — from small, accessible pieces to large statement installations for homes, offices, restaurants and interiors.

OUR VALUES

Sustainable Fossil Art Displays

We prioritise natural materials wherever possible, always with the environment in mind.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We upcycle packaging materials, reuse cardboard boxes, and use eco-friendly tape to reduce waste.

Even our garden ornaments reflect this ethos. Our concrete ammonites incorporate fragments from the fossil preparation process, giving new life to genuine fossil material.

Every fossil we handle is treated with the same level of care and respect, regardless of its value. After all, if I’m ever discovered in a few million years, I’d hope to be displayed just as thoughtfully.

Craftsmanship & Workshop

Over the years, Vince invested in the equipment needed to prepare fossils to a professional standard. He is committed to using the best tools, for example, TT air pens made by the legendary Ken Mainnion and equipment from Zoic Palaeotech.

Vince is always interested in improving his skills and learning from fossil experts. He undertook training in fossil preparation with Mark Kemp aka The Yorkshire Fossil Hunter.

In 2022, Vince finished building a dedicated workshop with room for all the specialist tools and machinery, as well as his ever-growing fossil collection. Vince can be found in the workshop most days, carefully preparing each fossil and coming up with new ideas and designs for displays.
